What’s New
Hong Kong is the 8th largest market for Bourgogne wines in terms of value and ranks 15th by volume. 825 000 bottles of Burgundy wines were exported in 2014 representing around €24 million market value. 54% of the wines exported are white wines and 45% are red wines (the remaining 1% being Crémant de Bourgogne).
In 2014, Bourgogne wines accounted for 5% of the total volume of French AOC wines exported to Hong Kong and 9% of the total revenue from this category. After the abolition of Hong Kong wine duties in 2008, the French wine exports to Hong Kong have undergone a significant rise (import value up by 322% between 2008-2011). Building on that success, Hong Kong’s Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development visited Burgundy on Friday 5th June. In the morning, the President of the Regional Council of Burgundy, Mr. François Patriat, welcomed the Secretary in Dijon to visit the prestigious vineyard of Domaine de la Romanée Conti in Vosne-Romanée and had lunch at the famous Clos de Vougeot castle. In the afternoon, the Secretary visited a Burgundy company specializing in CCTV solutions. Then, he was received at the Regional Council of Burgundy for an official reception with the participation of major regional economic leaders, industrial and educational partners.
